A temporary return to the Greyhound Bus. LAPO 2/13

Riding the greyhound bus used to be a means for some of the luckiest Americans to get to see their beautiful country and brag to their friends about the places they have traveled through. Since Henry Ford built the assembly line for constructing the automobile and JetBlue introduced the all you can Jet program the greyhound has shifted from a luxury travel accommodations to a wide scale people mover where talking to your neighbor is about as welcome as trying to making friends at the DMV. (Trust me I have tried.)

The good news is this is about to all change again. As oil production passes its peak and the fleet of ethanol and electric cars are yet to be widely available we will likely see over the next decade a return of all classes of Americans to riding the greyhound bus.

The even better news is the greyhound buses are parents rode to attend Woodstock when they were young are not the same buses we will ride. As we hop aboard with our Blackberrys and IPads equipped with both Kindle and Netflix we are in for a new greyhound experience that comes with electrical outlets, more leg room, safety belts, and Wi-Fi all while leaving a smaller impact on the environment. For the car adverse agnostics this could be as close to a spiritual feeling as one could imagine.

What could be better? Add a Starbucks machine? Add a video camera to the back of each seat? Even better...

Take a lesson from the Google business model and soon the ride will be practically free. How is this possible? Check back with the BOBH soon.
