The Google Bar and Grill

In exchange for free email or a free blog platform many people are willing to give up a lot of information about themselves.

Would you be willing to give up a little more information about yourself for a few cold ones or a delicious meal?

Of course you would!

Google makes money by giving away free services in exchange for people giving up information about themselves.

Google should open a bar and grill where the drinks and food are free, or at cost, and in exchange Google gets to record any conversations that take place.

In the mist of the great recession there would be no shortage of people willing to allow someone to ease drop on the family dinner for a big enough discount and in exchange Google would collect oodles more of information. While Google is at it they could go ahead and collect everything that is said on the greyhound bus in exchange for a free ride.

New poll says most Americans don't understand polls.

While I am all for the Google Bar & Grill... This is a really simplistic view of Google's revenue generation.

Yes we give away free tools and services, but the money is generated by highly targeted advertising, which more often then not is directed at non-Google accounts. Every search, every gmail page view, etc... generates ads.

Look up AdWords, AdSense and the enterprise business... they are the money generators. Not the free tools like Gmail, Maps, docs, sites, etc.

Bring on the Bar & Grill... but make sure you have a better business model than trading user info for beer.

  2. Alex,

    Thank you for you comment.

    1. I'll admit the Google B&G would need to have some advertisements perhaps on the koozies.

    2. Sorry I didn't catch up with you while I was in NYC. Perhaps I'll see you at a Gator game before too long.

    3. If you can make the business model work I would be happy to take care of the Bloody Marys.
