A few last minute random facts about New Zealand

1. The Sky Tower located in Auckland is the tallest building in the southern hemisphere. (take that Aussies!) If the sky tower were in Gainesville, FL it would be the third tallest building.

When I visited the tower the guy selling tickets said I could get to the top and enjoy the view for only $25 NZ ($15 US). I asked how much it would cost to enjoy the view on Google Earth. He didn't get it.

2. The entire country is moving north towards the equator at a pace of about 1.2 inches a year. There is a small movement led by Al Gore to stop the continental shift.

3. New Zealand is a popular spot for companies to experiment with new products. With the locals enjoying a similar lifestyle to that of both Americans and Europeans but having a population that is less than 2% of the US it makes New Zealand a good place for product test runs.

4. My trip home tomorrow begins at 11AM tomorrow. Door to door the entire trip will take about 31 hours. While this may seem long it is quite short when compared to the stories of the first British sailors to come to New Zealand that took as long as 20 years.
