Ban ties
I have always had a slight disdain for ties and would like to present a few reasons why we should ban ties....
1. Think of the time you will save.
If the average time you spend on ties is one minute a day (this figure includes tying your tie, picking out a tie in the morning, buying a tie, laundering a tie, and exchanging small talk about each others ties) then that means in the course of a year you will spend 4 hours and 15 minutes wasted on putting a fancy a noose around your neck. Think how terrible it would be if you didn't get to see Avatar this year because you were busy with a tie.
2. It will drive down your utility bill.
More ties means more air conditioner you get to pay for on your GRU bill.
3. They are dirty.
Carrying a piece of cloth that almost never gets washed around your neck all day does not seem like a very sanitary plan.
4. They prevent an unfair advantage in the courtroom.
Requiring a defense counsel to dress up formal could lead a jury to believe that if the defense counsel is taking things so seriously the defendant must have done something wrong.
I am not going to make a facebook group to ban ties but I would like it if UF had a policy of not allowing students to wear ties for OCI (or shake hands during flu season). This would give no student an unfair advantage because they choose to hang a cloth around their neck and it is highly unlikely any firm would not interview at UF Law because the students are not allowed to wear ties.
I wish I had just put ties on, taken them off, and repeated the process for 4 straight hours instead of watching Avatar.
